Dete kroz pokret upoznaje kako svet, sebe i svoje telo. Putem pokreta dete saznaje i uči o svetu oko njega, uči o svom telu i postaje svesno svog postojanja u svetu. Doživljaj telesne celovitosti je šema tela koja se formira na osnovu iskustva koje dete stiče tokom sazrevanja, kao i skup informacija koje dete dobija iz tela. Razvoj šeme tela se dešava kretanjem odnosno pokretom – doživljaj celovitosti je preduslov za organizaciju ponašanja, brzinu i kvalitet usvajanja i obrade informacija. Neusklađen razvoj pokreta i poznavanja tela izaziva može izazvati psihomotorne poremećaje, poremećaj praksije i ponašanja, tikove…
